Grass-Fed. No Drugs. No Compromise. Ridgemeade Farm Katahdin Breeding Ewes
Grass-Fed. No Drugs. No Compromise.
Our flock has been built from the ground up for one purpose: self-sufficient performance on real pastures—no grain, no wormers, no vaccines, and no chemical inputs of any kind. These are not show sheep. They are the result of years of selection pressure under true regenerative management in the hills of northwestern Pennsylvania.
Each ewe descends from one of twelve independent genetic lines from Missouri, Indiana, Virginia, Tennessee, Montana, Maryland, West Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Illinois - maintained within our closed flock. Through aggressive culling and careful observation, we’ve selected only those animals that thrive without intervention—naturally resistant to parasites, prolific mothers with strong milk, and calm enough to follow a bell rather than run from a dog.
Our ewes graze year-round on mixed native and improved pastures, rotating as often as six times a day during the flush season. Even through snow, they dig, forage, and maintain condition without supplementation (eating only additional hay in the bleak mid-winter). Over time, this has created a line of hardy, intelligent, and gentle Katahdins ideally suited to low-input and regenerative systems.
